Four large oil bottles are supplied. That is 15.12 L of engine oil, leaving some spare after the specified 13.2 L oil-and-filter change. Fill to the correct level using Mercury's procedure; do not pour all four bottles into the engine.
The fuel filter supplied is the V12 boat-mounted filter shown above. Check the installed filter arrangement if the boat has additional or aftermarket filtration. The base kit does not include an impeller or the other optional extras below.

1000-hour service parts
- Transmission filter and extra fluid: 1 x 35-8M0177646 filter plus 1 x 946 mL 8M0173229 ATF. This option increases the total fluid supplied from six to seven bottles for the larger fill with a new filter and drained cooler/hoses.
- Spark plugs: a complete set of 12 x 33-8M0180173 plugs. Check the engine label and applicable manual for the correct plug gap.
- Spark plug wire set: 1 x 84-8M0178258 set, listed under the existing part reference.
- Accessory belt: 1 x 8M0178243 for a 12V alternator. A 48V alternator requires 8M0207416; contact us for that belt instead.
- Power steering filter and fluid: 1 x 35-8M0182675 filter kit plus 3 x 946 mL 8M0173227 premium full synthetic power steering fluid. Use the specified V12 steering fluid.
- Water pump: choose either the 47-8M0177706 impeller alone or the 46-8M0177997 repair-kit option. Do not select both. Provide the engine serial and shaft length so the correct repair-kit application can be checked before supply.
The 1000-hour service also requires the routine oil, gear lubricant, transmission fluid and filters in the base kit. The options above supply parts; labour, inspections and any additional dismantling seals are separate.
Thermostats: select by serial number
| Engine serial | Thermostat option |
|---|---|
| Through 3B332191 | Early thermostat assembly 8M0177662, quantity 1 if required. |
| 3B332192 and up | Starboard/primary 8M0219846, 60°C / 140°F, and port/secondary 8M0219845, 71.1°C / 160°F. Each is a separate option; select both if replacing both thermostats. |
Choose the early assembly or the later individual thermostats to suit your engine. Thermostats are condition-based extras, rather than automatic replacements in the supplied V12 200/1000-hour schedule. Check any required clamps and seals for the work being done.
Anodes, fuel rail screens, grease and tools
- V12 aluminium anode kit, 97-8M0179981: inspect the anodes at each service and replace as their condition requires.
- Fuel rail screens, 35-8M0090809: select the one-screen option for serials 3B332192 and up, or the two-screen option for the earlier 3B060061-3B332191 group. Confirm the installed rail arrangement and select only one screen option. These are optional fuel-system items, not routine 200-hour replacements.
- Extreme Grease, 92-8M0190472: 397 g cartridge for the specified lubrication and corrosion-protection tasks.
- 2-4-C with PTFE, 92-802859A1: 227 g tube for lubrication points specified in the service procedure.
- Impeller installation tool, 91-8M0183891: reusable V12 workshop tool for installing the impeller. Select it only if you need the tool.

Service checklist and useful information
200 hours or before long-term storage
Replace the engine oil and oil filter, gearcase lubricant, transmission fluid and boat-mounted fuel filter. Inspect the starting battery and battery cables/clean-power harness, lanyard stop switch, fuel and hydraulic systems for leaks, transom mounting, propellers and corrosion-control anodes.
1000 hours
Carry out the routine fluid/filter changes and inspections, then replace the transmission filter, accessory belt, spark plugs, spark plug wires, water-pump impeller and power steering fluid/filter. Inspect the cooling-water strainer, remove the propellers and grease the splines, and check the power-trim fluid level. The valve-lash check applies to SeaPro models.
These major-service operations include dealer-service work. Have the complete job and any additional seals or repair-kit components checked against your serial-specific parts catalogue and current Mercury procedures.
Flushing, lubrication and practical service notes
- After use in salt, polluted or muddy water, flush the cooling system and rinse away salt deposits. The V12 flushing procedure uses the boat's engine flush connection with the engine switched off; a traditional flush runs for approximately 15 minutes. Follow the fitted automatic system's instructions if equipped.
- The gearcase and transmission have different fluids and separate service procedures. Use the correct fill/evacuation connection for each system.
- The 2.8 L gearcase quantity is for a previously filled and drained gearcase. A new or rebuilt dry gearcase must be filled using Mercury's fill/vent screw procedure.
- Replace the gearcase screw seals if the drain/vent screws are removed. Inspect drained lubricant for water or abnormal metal contamination.
- Inspect anodes regularly and leave their surfaces unpainted.
- Mercury's V12 steering hard-line advisory calls for an inspection when the boat is out of the water and the lower cowls are removed. Follow the advisory's cleaning and Extreme Grease application instructions; leaking lines require repair.
Maintenance summary based on Mercury V12 service manual 90-8M0217809 (June 2024) and the relevant Mercury service advisories. Use the current manual and bulletins applicable to your engine serial number for full procedures, tightening specifications and safety instructions. This listing supplies parts and fluids; it does not include workshop labour.
